Introduction
Fotor's AI Image Generator can turn an existing photo into a new look — watercolor, anime, 3D, vintage film, and more. Upload your image, choose or describe the style you want, and AI creates a transformed version while keeping the main subject recognizable.
You can use it to:
- Turn a photo into an illustration, cartoon, or painting
- Apply artistic styles like watercolor, oil painting, or pixel art
- Refresh a portrait or pet photo with a new visual mood
- Create stylized content for social media, gifts, or personal projects
Note: Sign in to your Fotor account to use the Image to Image feature. Some styles and features may require a subscription or credits. Only upload photos you own or have permission to use.
Step 1. Open Fotor AI Image Generator
- Visit Fotor AI Image Generator.
- Select Image to Image on the creation page.
Step 2. Upload Your Image
- Click Add reference image or the + upload icon.
- Select the photo you want to transform from your device.
- Wait for the image thumbnail to appear on the page.
For better results, use a clear image with a recognizable main subject.
Step 3. Choose or Create a Style
You can transform your image in two ways:
Option 1: Choose a Style Template
Browse the available style templates and select the one you like. Fotor will apply the selected style to your uploaded image.
Option 2: Create Your Own Custom Style
If you want a more personalized look, you can create and save your own custom style:
- Enter a name for your custom style in the Style Name field.
- Upload a reference image that represents the style you want.
- Adjust the Strength slider to control the influence of the reference image.
- Optionally, enter a text prompt to further describe your desired style.
- Click Save to save your custom style.
Once saved, you can reuse your custom style for future image transformations.
Step 4. Adjust Settings
Click Setting to customize your image generation options:
- Number of Images: Choose how many images you want to generate at once (1–4).
- Similarity: Adjust the slider to control how closely the generated image resembles your uploaded image.
- Negative Prompts: Enable this option to specify elements or details you don't want to appear in the generated image.
Adjust these settings according to your preferences before generating.
Step 5. Generate and Download Your Image
- Review your uploaded image and selected style.
- Check the credit information displayed on the page, if applicable.
- Click Generate and wait for your image to appear.
- Preview the result and click Download to save it to your device.
If the result isn't what you expected, try another style template or adjust your custom style settings and generate again.
Tips for Better Results
- Choose a clear image: Use an image where the main subject is easy to recognize.
- Be specific: If you enter a prompt, clearly describe the style and changes you want.
- Adjust Similarity: Experiment with different settings to balance preserving your original image and applying your desired changes.
FAQs
1. Do I need to enter a text prompt when using Image to Image?
No. Entering a text prompt is optional. Your uploaded image provides visual guidance for the AI, while a text prompt can provide additional instructions about the changes or results you want. Adding a clear and specific prompt may help you achieve results closer to your expectations.
2. Can I keep the main subject of my uploaded image while changing its style?
You can guide AI to preserve the main subject while applying a new style. Use the Similarity setting to control how closely the generated image resembles your uploaded image. You can also describe the subject and details you want to preserve in your prompt. However, AI may still change some details during generation.
3. Why doesn't the generated image look exactly like my uploaded image?
AI-generated results may differ from your original image, even when using a reference image. Try adjusting the Similarity setting, using a clearer image, or providing more specific instructions about which elements you want to preserve.
